I've always been fascinated by advertising and marketing. The language of influence. Designs that persuade. Communications that change behaviour. That's why I trained as a journalist, then did an Open University psychology degree, specialising in how the brain processes words and symbols. As a writer, I'm particularly interested in how words can change minds. So I also qualified as an NLP Practitioner (NLP = Neuro-Linguistic Programming). I worked for years in sales promotion and marketing in the home shopping industry where it's critical to 'sell off the page'. And now I run my own writing and design agency, Comms Plus, helping small businesses make more money through their marketing communications on paper, on screen, and face-to-face. If you like my Bad Ads blog, why not sign up to Writing Without Waffle, my regular e-newsletter – packed with wordy humour plus hints and tips about how to generate business through marketing on paper, on screen and face-to-face. You can continue to receive it for as long as you like with no obligation. Please contact me at jackie@comms-plus.co.uk.
